Thankful Thursday- My Little Man

In the summer of 2009, it seemed like it was going to take forever for him to get here, but since the day he was born, on Friday, February 5, 2010, it feels like time has been put in fast forward. Each and every day he amazes me with the things he does and says. He's even almost potty-trained now, which is so hard to believe.

The other night, he woke up at 3:00 a.m. This is a rare thing for him. I'm not sure if he had a bad dream or his tummy hurt, but I went in his room, got him out of his crib, and held him. Because we were both sleepy, I laid him on my chest, and for the first time in a long time, he fell asleep like this. However, I laid there taking it all in. His feet go all the way down to my knees when his head is on my shoulder.

My, how this little man has grown, and my what a blessing he is in my life. I am so thankful for him, and I treasure all the moments I have with him because he is so precious! One day he's going to be bigger than me, but while I still can, I am going to hold him every chance I get. He is a special gift straight from heaven.

Seven

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the day I said "I DO" to my best friend. Many people say they are nervous on their wedding day. I can honestly say that I wasn't. I was just ready to begin my life with Brent by my side. I knew he was the one for me, and I knew that wanted to be his wife. It's hard to explain that feeling of love, but if you've been there, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

At 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, before our family, friends, and God, we made a vow to each other, and we intend the keep that promise now and forever. I am so blessed to have Brent as my husband...

Thankful Thursday

Summer is in full blast, and Chandler and I have been enjoying VBS together this week. I have been working with children on fun crafts and helping them remember their bible verses, while Chandler has played and laughed with three wonderful ladies who must be ready to fall to the floor each day after loving on about 10 two-year-olds. Nonetheless, they show up with smiling faces each day, and they give my little one hugs and kisses to boot. For this, I am thankful.

Beach Souvenir

I'm not one of those people who goes out searching for a souvenir from every trip I take because it usually just ends up causing more clutter in the long run, but if I find something I like, I usually do have a tendency to splurge a little more on vacation than I do back home in the real world.

So, last Monday evening when Brent and I were walking around Barefoot Landing at Myrtle Beach and I saw this little shop that creates letter art, I just had to check it out. (You see, I had seen something similar on Pinterest a while back, and it caught my attention!)

The business is owned by a couple who does all their own photography, developing, and custom framing. We got to choose what designs we liked for each letter and even got to hear the background information for each of the letters we chose. Of course, I fell in love, and I know exactly where it's going to hang in our house! I know it's something we will all enjoy for years to come.

Beach Time!

Last week we had the chance to get away as a family for some fun at Myrtle Beach. My mom and dad went with us, and we all enjoyed a nice week of relaxing in the sand and sun. The weather was just right...not too hot, and not too cold!

Chandler enjoyed rolling his Daddy's frisbee,
 digging in the sand,
 playing with his truck,

chilling out in his own chair in the shade,
 swimming in the pool,
and blowing bubbles on the balcony!

Mommy & Me Swim Class

Each day the week before we went to the beach, Chandler and I attended a Mommy & Me swim class for half an hour with a friend of mine from high school. I wanted to get Chandler ready for the water. Boy did he love it! Now he's my little fish for sure! If you have little ones, I highly recommend taking some type of swim class with them. It gets them ready for the water, and you'll learn some things along the way, too.

Sometimes NO means YES or MAYBE

Being the mother of a two-year-old, I often hear the word "NO" come out of his mouth. Perhaps it's because it's an easy word for him to say, but more accurately, it's because he hears it so often from all the big people in his world. For whatever reason, it's his current most frequently spoken word, and like the title says, sometimes "no" actually means "yes" or "maybe" and I have to decide what each "no" means in context. For example, just this afternoon, I asked him if he wanted any more juice before I put his cup back in the refrigerator after snack time. He quickly replied "no", but then he started saying "I want more juice!" just as soon as the door closed. So, that particular "no" actually meant "yes". Then later, I asked him if he needed to go to the potty. Again, his answer was "no", but with some encouragement from me (and a cute pack of Toy Story stickers), he finally decided to try. This "no" quickly became a "maybe". Perhaps this is how God answers our prayers sometimes. So often, we feel like he is saying no to us, when he actually is saying yes or maybe. We just have to wait for His perfect timing, and not rely on our own selfishness. Everything will work out the was He has it all planned in the end anyway.
